Wednesday 19 April 1944

Dear Diary,

Made up a test in math 1st + 5th hours. Goddards moved their house. Got a dish of ice cream. Play volleyball with the kids. Walked Joan + Donna home. Went over to Webbs talked awhile. Came home put up my hair (Bonnie started last night).

Thursday 20 April 1944

Dear Diary,

Went to school. Played volleyball with my basketball. Play with Joan’s volleyball later on. Met the cutest soldiers talked and freated [flirted?] with him for a while. Had a coke with Frances. Went over to Colleans. Had some ice cream.

Friday 21 April 1944

Dear Diary,

Went to school in the morning. In the afternoon with to… with mom and Big Betty. Stayed for 6 hours. Bought me a new jacket what a hunny. Went to the show with Tellie saw “Lady Bodyguard” with Eddie Albert + “A Stranger in Town” Richard Carlson.

Saturday 22 April 1944

Dear Diary,

No school today. Went over town with Mom + Betty again. Got my new suit coat. Read Kit Carson 2 more chapters will finish it tonight. Went to the show saw “Lifeboat” was it good. Got a hamburg + a multed. Wore my new coat to the show.

Sunday 23 April 1944

Dear Diary,

Didn’t go to sunday school. Went to the Michigan saw “Old Oklahoma” + “Submarine Base” was it corny. Dick + Betty came over. Bonnie + I got a multed. Read a love story. mmm. Betty put up my hair. Listen to the momers. Fried me an egg. Reading a love story.

Monday 24 April 1944

Dear Diary,

Went to school. Went to see Gene Autry in person but didn’t get in. Went with Marilyn. Went to the show with Frances at the Court saw “So Proudly We Hail” for the second time was it good also “He’s My Guy.” Mom put up my hair. 

 

Note: No news on the volleyball team! I wonder if her leaving it out is because she didn’t make the team.

Tuesday 11 April 1944

Dear Diary,

Went to school. Rained so we couldn’t play baseball. One of my chickens died the pink one. Went to the show with Bonnie. Saw “Happy Go Lucky”” + “High …positives” cried in it. Saw Bud, Bob, + Tom there.

Dear Diary,

Went to school. Made sphattie + Tomato. Play in the noon was in the 2nd row center. Hope I’m on! Got a new movie book. Went bike riding with Pat + Fran. Played baseball. Walked home with Joan. Put up my hair. Brush my teeth. Going to read a funny book.

Thursday 13 April 1944

Dear Diary,

Went to school. Referreeded today, 2nd game Marilyn [?]st. Got my first floor burn for all year. Played volleyball with Frances, Pat + Baily. Went bike riding saw Dickie Ellis playing baseball as[?] do we. Played hide and go seek + Leamcide [no clue what this should be]. Walked home with Joan.

 

Friday 14 April 1944

Dear Diary,

Went to school. Made scrabbled eggs + ham. Referreeded the noon games. Snowed so we couldn’t play volleyball or baseball. Got a new movie book. Went to the show with Bonnie + Jerry at the Court. Crime Doctor + a English story. Look at the movie books.

 

Saturday 15 April 1944

Dear Diary,

I think I’m one day ahead of you so I may skip a day but today worked on my “Alan Ladd” scrapbook. Dickie came over. We all went to the show. Saw “Fallen Sparrow” and “Fired Wife.” Looked through my scrapbook once more.

Sunday 16 April 1944

Dear Diary,

Didn’t go to Sunday school. Grant didn’t come over. And I’m now one day behind. Went to the show saw “Iron Major” and “True to Life” Went over to Dick + Betties. Got a big color picture of Alan Ladd. Took a bath + put up my hair. Listen to the radio + the momers. Read funny book.

Monday 17 April 1944

Dear Diary,

Went to school. Practise first hour going tomorrow at “Arthur Hill.” Got a multed. Play volleyball + basketball with the kids. Went bike riding a little. Listen to Lux “Alan Ladd” was on in Conly Island also on the Gild “High Saraga.” Put up my hair. 

 

Tuesday 18 April 1944

Dear Diary,

Went to Arthur Hill High School in the morning got  out of going in the morn. Went in the afternoon. Make up Gym 5th hour with Strong Rebuge [?] + water’s. Played volleyball. Had a float. Colleen came over had a lot of fun. She put up part of my hair. Read Kit Carson.

Wednesday 5 April 1944

Went to school. Had an Easter assembly. I was in it. Got a sunday. Worked on my scrap book of Alan Ladd. Read some of my stories that I wrote in the 5th grade was they corny. Had popcorn. Listen to the radio. Bud came over. Put up my hair.

Went to school. Made cheese macrony was pretty good. Played volleyball with Frances + Pat. Went bike riding with them. And after supper I went too. Frances gave me some pictures of Alan Ladd. Worked on my scrapbook. Didn’t put up my hair.

Didn’t go to school today. “Good Friday.” Played basketball + worked. Clean the appartment up. Moved in our old bedroom. Worked on our Easter eggs. Jim helped me fix Grant, Dickie + Brain’s [Brian’s] basket. Also pee wee’s. Washed my feet. Corn!

Cleaned living room + dining room. Got my teeth clean. Got two new books of Alan Ladd. Made some more Easter eggs. Grant didn’t come over. Went to the show alone saw Frances [Franchot] Tone he gets killed in the end. And saw Johsen [?] Cotton. Was pretty good.

Grant came over to late. Didn’t go to church. Went to the show saw “Government Girl” wasn’t good. On the way over I met Garshall, Dickie, +Brian came over. Played down in the basement. Got a cablegram from Gene. Watched them play cards. Listen to the homers [?] Read Alan Ladd. mm

Went to school. Came home for lunch. Tryed on my evening gown. Did some homework. Went to the Temple saw “Dearest Song ” with Denise Morgan was it ever good. Tom when[went] too. Got a multed. Is Denis ever cute.

Got up at 8:00. Went down in the basement. Played down there all day. Got 8 bottles of pop. Played poker. Have three bottles left. Went to the last show of the Court saw “My Heart Belongs to Daddy” with Richard Carlson. Is he cute!

Went to sunday school. Mrs. Smith broke her hip were sending her some flowers. Went to the show saw “Jane Eire” Got a movie star book. Play poker. Drank three bottles of pop. Took a bath + put up my hair.

Went to school. Got sunday + a movie book. Went to the show with mom + dad. Saw Jane Erire [Eyre] the second time. I just loved the show am going to see it again. Betty took a bike ride on my bike. Put up my hair.

 

 

Tuesday 4 April 1944

Dear Diary,

Went to school. Made tomato + cheese.  Didn’t make the free throws today made 12 out of 13. Did my social studies. Bud + Marshall came over we tried to play card but Marshall didn’t know how + Elane was down there. 

 

I wasn’t going to respond until I saw the Jane Eyre part – that is my a favorite book of mine (out of classic literature anyway). I read Jane Eyre about once a year and have many of the movies. I didn’t know there was a 1944 version and I LOVE that Grandma loved the story as much as I do. 🙂 The mini-series is my favorite version but I really enjoyed the latest movie of Jane Eyre too. I can’t put in another YouTube clip but if you like the story, I recommend checking it out.
